The LEAP: Learning Earning Active Places Strategy (2011-2014) outlines how the government will work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to improve access to education, employment, health and housing opportunities in urban and regional areas.
The strategy has 3 components:
- 20 across-government actions to improve access to services and better meet the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders.
- A positive media campaign: deadly stories.
- Local actions to close the gap in urban and regional locations across Queensland: LEAP Local.
20 across-government actions
The 20 actions are categorised under 4 main areas:
- Learning - improving educational outcomes
- Earning - promoting greater employment and economic participation
- Active - supporting healthy lifestyle choices
- Places - provide safe and affordable housing
deadly stories campaign
The deadly stories campaign is one of the key actions under the LEAP Strategy. It celebrates the many achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across Queensland. Find out more about the deadly stories.
LEAP Local
Local solutions will be developed and implemented across cities, towns and regional locations to respond to identified local priorities. Progress will be reviewed and reported on every 6 months to reflect emerging priorities.
