Child Care Act 2002 and Child Care Regulation 2003
The Child Care Act 2002 and the subordinate Child Care Regulation 2003 commenced operation on 1 September 2003. Since its commencement, amendments to the Regulation have been made twice, on 16 December 2005 and 3 November 2008.

Building standards
The building requirements for child care centres do not appear in the Child Care Act 2002 and are incorporated under the Building Act 1975. The building standards for child care centres are contained in an annexure called the Queensland Development Code: Child Care Centres (MP5.4) which is referenced by the Building Regulation 2006.
