Fernvale and Lowood - Children Central

This proposal is for an information and service delivery hub to operate from two private child care centres, the Fernvale Fun Factory and the Lowood Child Care Centre and Pre-school. The service will target families with children in the Lowood, Fernvale, Coominya and surrounding areas.

The need for a hub providing family support and health and education services has been demonstrated by the Lowood Community Collaborative Report 2001 and a survey (2001) in schools, community groups and health services. The hub will provide information and service delivery to improve access to a range of child and family support, health and education services.

As part of a community development model the service will build on existing community capacity. The project will focus on those services currently available which could be better enhanced. The proposal will also identify gaps in current services and respond to these.

The coordinator will work from two child care centres on a shared basis and will spend two days at each service and the 5th day will be spent as needed for example: visiting other services.

Triennial funding of $64,643 is provided for a hub coordinator and to assist with operating costs.
