Gympie - Cooloola Child and Family Centre
The Cooloola Child and Family Centre Hub Strategy will build upon an existing cluster of services that have previously operated independently. The existing services - limited hours child care, community support and community development service and multicultural information service are co-located in central Gympie.
The strategy proposes to increase the access and functionality of the premises to allow for additional services to meet a range of needs identified by the hub partners. These include parenting programs, child health education programs, women's health support, and complementary therapies for children with a disability.
The strategy includes the development of a mobile playgroup for families in caravan parks who have limited access to the town centre. The Playgroup Association has committed to partnering in this strategy.
The proposal will also support the development of a 'service centre' in Tin Can Bay to provide a range of services to this geographically isolated community. The proprietor of the long day care centre and the volunteers from the local information & referral service are committed to the further development of this partnership.
The proposal has developed from a partnership of several key community organisations (Child Care, Women's Health Centre, Toy Library, Child Health, Disability Services Queensland, Parent Care Centre etc) who have linked with the local community to ensure widespread support for the hub strategy.. The proposal will also be well supported and resourced through the local council (Community Development Worker).
Triennial funding of $49,681 is provided to employ a Hub Coordinator and non-recurrent funding of $7,598 is provided for an exterior door and path to improve access to the centre.
