Mount Isa - Brilla Brilla Centre

The project aims to develop Yallambee's capacity to respond to the identified needs of parents and children through providing a safe and secure space where community agencies can visit, and provide community education and support through a variety of cultural activities as identified by the Yallambee community. Activities would include Playgroup, Vacation Care, Family Support, Child Health services and access to various resources for parents to sustain early childhood development in a cultural environment.

It was identified at the RAATSICC Advisory meeting in Mt.Isa that there was a need for a coordinated response to provide a culturally appropriate child care and family support centre. This need has also be identified and strongly supported by the Department of Commonwealth Family and Community Services. The centre will promote an integrated service which will include activities coordinated with other agencies in the Mount Isa area. The hub will address child care and family support needs for families at the Yallambee Aboriginal Reserve.

Triennial funding of $65,313 is provided for a hub coordinator and to assist with operating costs, and non-recurrent funding of $158,063 is provided to renovate and make alterations to the existing Brilla Brilla Centre.
