Mount Morgan Aboriginal Corporation
The Mount Morgan Aboriginal Corporation provides a number of services including vacation care, homework groups, housing, and Centrelink Services.
Mount Morgan Aboriginal Hub proposal would support the community in developing integrated services to respond to a range of child care and family support needs.
The Child Care Hub proposal has been discussed and endorsed by the Mount Morgan Cross-Government Taskforce and links to other Department of Communities initiatives and other Government department initiatives.
Non-recurrent funding of $10,000 is provided to assist the Mount Morgan Aboriginal Corporation to work with the community to further develop their hub proposal which addresses the child care and family support needs of the area.
Mount Morgan is a highly disadvantaged area with 64% of families on or below the poverty line. The area is also a focus of regional place planning processes and is a priority area for the development of a child care and family support hub.
Funding to undertake planning for a hub will ensure that all key stakeholders in the Mount Morgan community are involved in the hub development and that clear outcomes are determined.
Through the second round of funding, triennial funding of $65,000 is provided for a hub coordinator and operating costs, and non-recurrent funding of $10,000 is provided for set up costs.
The Mount Morgan Child and Family Support Hub will bring together services which aim to meet the diverse needs of children and families living within Mount Morgan ensuring that specialist support services are responsive to the needs of the community. It is envisaged that the service will:
- provide parent information and family support
- co-ordinate the visits from specialist services (eg child health services)
- attract, integrate and expand the range of services to the community
- improve the usage of community infrastructure and resources
- provide support to community groups and act as an advocate
- develop a data base of services and potential responses in relation to children and family issues.
The Central Queensland Region has also prioritised this organisation to receive capital funding through the Department's Community Facility Upgrades Strategy. Once this upgrade has been completed a number of services that support children and families have indicated that they will deliver services from this venue.
