Townsville - Upper Ross Child Care and Family Support Hub
The Upper Ross Community Centre currently provides a range of community support services, and outside school hours care services.
The proposed project will coordinate and maximise access to a number of children's services currently operating in the Upper Ross area consisting of the suburbs of Condon, Rassmussen and Kelso through:
- working collaboratively in the planning and delivery of an integrated service system to maximise the well being of children and families
- providing early intervention, prevention and intensive family support, acting as a central point to coordinate access to children's services in the area
- using brokerage funding to enable all families to use existing services, in particular child care and trial creative responses to identified child care and family support needs
- the development of accessible parenting programs appropriate to the target group
- using brokerage funding to assist children and parents access specialised child health services not available in Upper Ross
- employing action research methodologies to engage the target group in developing community solutions to child care and family support needs as identified through child care centres
- developing and implementing innovative and creative child care and family support responses to assist at risk children and their families, recognising that all families are vulnerable at some times.
Triennial funding of $60,000 is provided to employ a hub coordinator and to assist with operating costs, and non-recurrent funding of $4,065 is provided to purchase office equipment.
