Industry information

This section provides a resource for developers, licensees and valuers of child care services in Queensland.

In Queensland, child care services are licensed by the State Government. This means they are required to meet minimum quality standards concerning, for example, the number of adults to children, the activities and experiences, the physical environment, health, hygiene and safety.

The legislation governing the provision of child care in Queensland is the Child Care Act 2002 and the Child Care Regulation 2003.

The Act and Regulation clearly articulate the minimum standards that need to be met in order to be licensed and thereby legally operate a child care service in Queensland.

For further information regarding the licensing process, contact a Child Care Resource Officer at your nearest Regional or Area Office of the Department.

The Department has produced a Developer's Kit to assist individuals or groups that are interested in establishing a child care service in Queensland. The Kit outlines the legislation governing child care in Queensland, the licensing process and the application fees that apply.

On other pages you can access useful publications and resources and funding information.
