Cyclone Larry community recovery

Community recovery workers assist residents.

Tropical Cyclone Larry hit Far North Queensland communities on 20 March 2006 with devastating effects to homes, businesses and industry. Following the cyclone, the Department of Communities sent staff from around the state to assist local people with the recovery effort.

The department is committed to supporting people affected by Cyclone Larry to rebuild their strength and resilience through the provision of services and programs that are relevant, timely and informed.

Recovery services have been modified and improved to respond to the changing needs of individuals and families in the affected communities, and there is a team of departmental officers in place in Far North Queensland to support and assist through the ongoing recovery process.

Hats off to Cyclone Larry Recovery Effort

After Cyclone Larry devastated parts of far north Queensland, the helping hand of the Department of Communities’ cyclone recovery team has now been extended 50,000 times.
