Redress Scheme
The Queensland Government established the Redress Scheme to provide ex gratia payments to people who experienced abuse and neglect as children in Queensland institutions. The payments recognise the harm suffered by these people and aim to help them move forward with their lives.
Up to $100 million is available for payments, access to legal and financial services for eligible applicants, and practical assistance in completing applications.
The closing date for applications has been extended to 30 September 2008 to ensure that as many people as possible have an opportunity to apply.
A large volume of applications has been received. Consequently, it may take some time to process an application. Priority is given to applicants aged over 70 years or people who have a life-threatening illness.
