About the strategy

Throughout their lives, many Queenslanders will use a service provided by a non-government organisation (NGO). This could include childcare, neighbourhood programs, crisis support or disability-related services.

Many of these community and disability services are provided by NGOs funded by the Queensland Government. The government funds these organisations because they are close to the community and have a good knowledge of local opportunities and needs.

The Strengthening Non-Government Organisations strategy was launched in August 2005. The strategy comprises a range of collaborative initiatives between the Queensland Government and the community and disability sectors. These initiatives focus on building the capacity of funded NGOs so they can continue to provide high-quality community and disability services to Queenslanders.

The strategy consists of nine key initiatives that are being undertaken collaboratively by the Queensland Government and the community and disability sectors. Overall, these initiatives are designed to:
