Standard Chart of Accounts Round Table Discussion
One of the priority initiatives under the Compact Action Plan is the move towards consistent financial reporting arrangements for the sector, using the Standard Chart of Accounts (SCOA). The aim is to not only reduce red tape but also improve the capacity of both government and the sector to make informed decisions based on accurate and reliable financial data.
A round table was held in Brisbane on 18 September, 2009 to explore the barriers to the full implementation of the SCOA. Participants at this event were selected based on their capacity to represent a diversity of views across government and the sector. Government attendees were drawn from central agencies and departments which had and had not implemented the SCOA. Sector representatives were drawn from large, medium and small organisations based in Brisbane and Cairns and again reflected a mix of organisations which had and had not implemented the SCOA.
Issues raised at the round table were further discussed at the Intersectoral Forum held in Brisbane on 29 September, 2009.
