Public consultation - Redlynch site

69 Intake Rd Redlynch

In August 2010 the Minister for Community Services approved the Redlynch site as the future permanent operational base for The Northern Outlook.

The service is currently operating from the temporary office but has begun delivering training and programming on the Redlynch site. The service will fully transition to the Redlynch site in the second half of 2011.

The Redlynch site provides an ideal base of operations for a wide range of Adventure Based Learning activities due to its size and bushland setting. It possesses a sense of isolation, whilst being easily accessible by other essential services and client organisations.

Approved Development

The following will be built on the site:

Stage 1:

  • staff office and conference room
  • two equipment sheds
  • caretakers residence
  • access roads and parking areas
  • one designated area for tent camping with marquee
  • national Park-style composting toilet toward the back of the block
  • activity infrastructure such as ropes course and group problem solving activities

Stage 2

  • indoor activity centre and training room

The approval also includes residential accommodation for up to 20 people for short term stays (up to five days). No funding has been committed by the government for this accommodation but it was included to cover possible future requirements.

Future variations to the type or intensity of use currently proposed would require another separate approval and public consultation process to be completed.

The Northern Outlook is being used as a resource by a wide range of community groups, clubs, schools and churches including targeted services such as women's support services or disability groups.

An indicative site plan illustrates the proposed layout of buildings and development on the site. All proposed buildings are located in the north-eastern portion of the site.
