In April 2011 the Prime Minister and the Premier announced a Community Recovery and Wellbeing Package for Queensland communities affected by the recent natural disasters.  The Package is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments, through the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA).

Part of this package includes $20 million in targeted funding for a Community Development and Recovery Package over two years until June 2013 (funded under Category C of NDRRA).

The Department of Communities has allocated the funding to the Local Government Association of Queensland Ltd (LGAQ) and the Department of Local Government and Planning (DLGP) to administer the funding on its behalf.

What does the Package provide?

Through the Community Development and Recovery Package, funds are provided to all disaster declared Local Governments across Queensland.

This funding has been made available for Local Governments so they can support their community's recovery, help the community work out its own recovery needs and implement projects, activities and events which contribute to the community's recovery, resilience and future disaster preparedness

Components of the Community Development and Recovery Package include two initiatives:

  1. Community Development and Engagement Initiative
  2. Flexible Funding Program.
