The Queensland Government's Pensioner Water Subsidy Scheme provides an annual subsidy up to a maximum of $120 off the cost of utility (water access and volumetric usage) charges. This subsidy is provided to eligible pensioner rate payers residing in the South-East Queensland Water Grid area and will be applied to your water account.
To be eligible for the scheme, you must be:
- a holder of a Pensioner Concession Card or a Repatriation Health Card — for all conditions (Gold Card) — no other cards are acceptable when determining eligibility
- the owner or life tenant* of the property which is your principal place of residence, and
- legally responsible for the payment of local government rates and charges levied on that property.
The property must be located in the South-East Queensland Water Grid area and the subsidy is allowed on only one property at a time.
A new application must be lodged if you change your address.
For more information or to apply for the subsidy, contact the local water distribution and retail company whose contact details appear on your water account.
If you were previously receiving the water subsidy on your local council rate account, your entitlement will automatically transfer.
*A life tenancy can be created only by a valid Will and is effective only after the death of the property owner, or by a Supreme or Family Court Order.
