Key initiatives

Since the launch of the Strengthening Non-Government Organisations strategy in 2005, a number of initiatives are now well underway or completed, providing opportunities for NGOs to strengthen their operations, services and working relationships with government.

key initiatives in the strategy include:

• Online Acquittal Support Information System (OASIS) Grants Tool

  The Online Acquittal Support Information System (OASIS) is a new online grants tool that will make it easier, simpler and faster for funded organisations to electronically update records, submit financial acquittals and performance information, and access reports relating to this information

• Community Services Act 2007

  New community services legislation has been passed by the Queensland Parliament.

• Community Door website

  This 'one-stop shop' website provides information tools and resources to help NGOs with their daily operations.

• Shared and Collaborative Arrangements

  Opportunities have been created for NGOs to form partnerships and share resources so that, together, they can build their capacity to provide community and disability services.

• Standards for Community Services

  The Standards for Community Services outline the minimum expectations of NGOs providing services recurrently funded by the Department of Communities.

• Workforce Development

  Through these initiatives opportunities have been created for NGOs to build the capacity of their staff, volunteers, management committees and boards.

• Ministers Awards for Excellence in Workforce Development

  Winners of the 2008 Minister's Awards for Excellence in Workforce Development were announced at a presentation ceremony in Brisbane on 18 November 2008.
