The Cross-Government Project to Reduce Social Isolation of Older People commissioned a literature review on social isolation of older people, for phase 1 of the project, to inform later phases of the project. The aim of the review was to: clarify the extent of social isolation amongst older people; identify risk and protective factors for social isolation; to identify initiatives that had been undertaken by government or community organisations; and to highlight areas of best practice. The review was undertaken by the Australasian Centre on Ageing at the University of Queensland and published in 2002. The Australasian Centre on Ageing was commissioned to update the literature review in December 2007.
