The Positively Ageless - Queensland Seniors Strategy 2010-20 (PDF, 1.5 MB) Positively Ageless - Queensland Seniors Strategy 2010-20 (RTF, 506 KB) is a long-term vision that responds to the needs of Queensland seniors, particularly those who are disadvantaged and vulnerable. The Strategy has a ten year outlook with rolling two year action plans. The first action plan (2010-2012), contained within the Strategy, has 138 initiatives being delivered by 17 Queensland Government agencies.

About the Strategy

Positively Ageless looks beyond chronological ages to real issues such as health, social participation and independence so that Queensland seniors get the most out of life. The Strategy aims to position the Government to target investment to vulnerable and disadvantaged seniors into the future.

The Strategy has 5 priority areas which will assist in achieving an age-friendly state:

1. Valuing and empowering seniors
2. Improving health and wellbeing
3. Promoting workforce participation, independence and mobility
4. Supporting community participation and age friendly communities
5. Providing information and improving communication

Our approach is to build on the strengths and capabilities of seniors and also build on the strengths of the community and business and build partnerships across government.

Highlight reports are being compiled every 6 months to provide updates on the highlights and achievements under the strategy.

About the consultation process

Consultation for the Strategy was completed in late 2009. It included a range of seniors' issues such as health, transport, workforce participation and housing.

Consultation forums were held in 14 locations across the state. More than 720 participants attended the forums and more than 220 written and online responses were received. The department appreciates the input provided throughout the consultation period. This input was invaluable in helping to develop a long-term vision for Queensland seniors.
