Location: Aramac
'Hard work never hurt anyone' is the creed by which Aramac resident John Dolgner has led his life.
John, who is proud to have been 'born and bred' in the small Central Queensland town, has spent his adult life volunteering his time and energy to a number of local community organisations.
John served as a councillor on the Aramac Shire Council for approximately 14 years. He has a keen interest in helping local seniors and is an active member of the Aramac Senior Citizens Association and assists the local Home and Community Care service by delivering meals to the elderly and helping care for their yards.
As probably nobody knows Aramac better than John, he also serves as the town's unofficial tour guide, taking media and Queensland Tourism representatives on tours around Aramac and neighbouring Muttaburra.
A keen interest in horses and the racing industry, has seen John take on the role of president of the Aramac Race Club for more than 30 years. This has involved maintaining the race track and course facilities to ensure the people of Aramac and surrounding areas can enjoy horse racing.
It is through his role as a volunteer emergency ambulance driver, however, that John may have made the most impact. Volunteering as a driver frees up the professional paramedic, allowing him or her to focus on caring for the patient. John's volunteer role has no doubt assisted in saving the lives of many Queenslanders in rural and remote areas.
His connection with the local ambulance also extends to membership of the local Ambulance committee. He has been instrumental in raising funds to buy necessary equipment for the ambulance.
Aramac is set to continue to benefit from John's voluntary work as he has no plans to slow down in the near future.
