Mary ‘May’ Gordon

Location: Brisbane

May Gordon has always put others before herself. One of May's first volunteering experiences was when, as a member of the Catholic Daughters of Australia, she visited hospitals to hand out magazines to the patients. Today, aged 90 years, she continues to work at the Brisbane Private Hospital, attending to the flowers and running messages for the patients.

She has also been a member of St Vincent de Paul Society since her early 20s and has prepared thousands of items of clothing, made countless meals and visited hundreds of people.

May is widely recognised in her community having been a member of the Bulimba Meals on Wheels service for the past 25 years. She also encourages young people to volunteer as part of her involvement with a program with Villanova College.

Described by those who know her as a 'truly amazing woman', May's dedication to helping others in need makes her an outstanding role model in her community.
