Since 1982, Aunty Annie Roe, 60, has volunteered at the Bundaberg Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Housing and Advancement Society. During this time, she has held several executive positions and is currently president.
The society provides accommodation to low income Indigenous families in the Bundaberg and hinterland regions.
Annie has also found time to volunteer with a wide range of other community groups. She was the president of Wandiny Home and Community Care, undertook guest speaking at local schools and tutored in basket weaving.
She also volunteered for NAIDOC week, was the president of the Bundaberg Aboriginal Corporation for Women and volunteered at the Cystic Fibrosis Queensland Bundaberg Thrift Shop.
