John Antonio, OAM (Certificate of Recognition)

Location: Redcliffe, Brisbane

John Antonio has been volunteering in Queensland for more than 33 years and is committed to the safety and security of his Redcliffe community.

After retirement, John joined the Volunteers in Policing program, helping police to deliver crime-prevention services. He is also currently acting as the coordinator of the Woody Point Neighbourhood Watch and has spent a number of years working with local Domestic Violence Action Groups as a court support worker, directly assisting victims of domestic violence.

John, a well-respected and valued member of his community, received a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in 1988 for his service to the Pacific Islander and Polynesian Communities.

As John has received an OAM, he is technically ineligible for a Premier's Award for Queensland Seniors. However, his commitment to his community was deemed so outstanding, he has been recognised with a Certificate of Recognition.
