Lily, 63, is a founding member of the Wujal Wujal Warranga Justice Group which assists the community of Wujal Wujal, north of Cairns, with all aspects of the justice system.
Over the past 20 years, she has worked tirelessly to curb the alcohol problems in the community. She was one of four women who walked the streets at night to stop the behaviour of drunks, reduce excessive noise and to get the kids off the streets.
Her volunteer work with the justice group involves offering advice to people on cultural matters in relation to the law, parenting, family responsibilities and respect and caring for traditional land and older people.
Lily strongly lobbied to enforce a zero alcohol policy within the community, and was also instrumental in the establishment of a new police station for Wujal Wujal. Her voluntary efforts have made the community a more peaceful place to live, where children can feel safe.
