Aunty Therese, 62, volunteers for the Queensland Cancer Council, running the local Relay for Life fundraising event, as well as being heavily involved in work with local Indigenous girls and women.
Over the past 21 years, she has raised approximately $300 000 for the council through a range of fundraising events. Aunty Therese is the chair of the Queensland Cancer Council's Laidley Relay for Life — a unique event where teams of 10 to 15 friends, families or colleagues challenge themselves to take turns to keep a baton moving in a relay style walk or run overnight.
She is also chair of the Lockyer Valley branch of the cancer council, secretary of the Laidley Ambulance Committee and area coordinator of Blenheim Neighbourhood Watch.
Aunty Therese's other volunteering activities include as an 'adopted Elder' for numerous schools in the area, and also organising reading programs for primary schools.
