Location: Cloncurry
Herbert Fortune, 71, has spent most of his life volunteering to benefit the Cloncurry community.
Herbie first began volunteering at the local bowls club, where he oversaw the expansion of the club room and upgrades to the bowling greens. His vision enabled the club to become a prime meeting place for the Cloncurry community.
He has also volunteered many years to the Cloncurry State School's Parents and Citizens Assication, as well as helping establish the Cloncurry PCYC and local Justice Association. Herbie has spent an enormous amount of time advocating for the needs of the most disadvantaged in his community and working with local youth.
Herbie is still on the board of the bowls club and the PCYC, as well as holding down a position as an Indigenous Police Liaison Officer
Herbie is a legend in Cloncurry. Throughout his life he has led by example and shown that, through hard work, you can achieve great things. Herbie still actively volunteers in the community and is showing no signs of slowing down.
