Shirley has been a driving force behind the Mareeba Art Society for almost half a decade.

Shirley began volunteering with the Mareeba Art Society when a handful of people who had a common interest in arts and crafts started meeting on a rotational basis at private homes.

With the goal of one day having a permanent arts society building, they began fundraising, organising art exhibitions and arranging visiting tutors to hold art classes.

Today, the Mareeba Arts Society has approximately 80 members and boasts a permanent building and art gallery which are open to the general public.

Throughout the years, Shirley has occupied almost all positions on the Mareeba Art Society management committee. She is currently President of the society and a life member.

Still going strong, Shirley continues to volunteer at the art gallery a few days a week and conducts regular pottery classes for children and adults. She also helps staff the Arts Society's stall at the Mareeba Markets, and continues to plan for the Society's future.
