Why your business should join the scheme

Any business that has senior customers can benefit from joining the Seniors Card Business Discount scheme.

Nearly 80% of Queenslanders aged over 60 have a Seniors Card, Seniors Card +go or Seniors Business Discount Card. Card Services receives up to 45,000 new cardholder applications each year.

Research shows most seniors prefer businesses that offer a seniors discount, believing these businesses make them feel welcomed and valued as a customer. 

The Seniors Business Discount Card scheme is open to any business that wants to attract the seniors market. Participating businesses may be:

• located anywhere in Queensland
• national businesses with Queensland outlets
• online or mail order businesses offering discounts to Queenslanders.

Joining the scheme is free with no ongoing costs or fees for membership.

Because the Seniors Card, Seniors Card +go and Seniors Business Discount Card are not means tested, cardholders are both pensioners and self-funded retirees.

Seniors shop in a diverse range of business markets including travel, health and fitness, household services, family fun, information services, investment and financial services, and safety and security.

What is required of participating businesses?

Participating businesses are required to offer some form of discount or a 'value added' service or product for free. The offer must be available to all cardholders.

The discount or offer must be genuine and is subject to the Fair Trading Act 1989, which states that false or misleading advertising may lead to prosecution. Your offer will be published in the annual Business Discount Directory for Seniors and Carers.

You will be provided with free point-of-sale Seniors Card/Seniors Business Discount Card signs and stickers to display in your business. You are required to display this signage so cardholders know your business participates in the scheme. Suggested areas for displaying stickers include delivery vehicles, A-frame advertising signs, shop windows and front doors, menus and cash registers.

How will your business be promoted?

The Seniors Business Discount Card scheme provides registered businesses with free promotion to more than 650,000 cardholders including:

1. a free standard listing of your business details and promotional offers in your regional edition of the directory. The annual directory is mailed to all cardholder households, delivering your message to thousands of potential customers
2. your business details will be available to cardholders through the free online search facility. If you have supplied your URL, cardholders can live link to your homepage
3. your business details will be provided to cardholders who contact us by telephone or email seeking local businesses that participate in the scheme
4. if your discount is available to interstate cardholders, your business details will be provided to cardholders that participate in the scheme.

There is also an opportunity to enhance free business listings by buying optional full-colour advertising in some or all of the eight regional editions of the Business Discount Directory for Seniors and Carers.
