The Government Award recognises an innovative and exceptional policy, project or activity by local or state government that increases awareness of, and/or community safety from, domestic and family violence.

Winner: Warwick Police District in collaboration with Australia's' CEO Challenge, Warwick Domestic and Family Violence Strategy Group

For: The White Ribbon Domestic Violence Awareness Project

The Warwick Police District has been recognised for coordinating the White Ribbon Domestic Violence Awareness Project and rallying local government agencies and businesses to demonstrate their commitment to ending violence toward women.

The project rallied local government agencies and businesses to display 450 white ribbon stickers—the international symbol to support the elimination of violence toward women—on the windscreens of police, ambulance, fire and rescue service vehicles, council vehicles, interstate trucks and taxis.

The project demonstrated how effective partnerships between government, business and the community can increase awareness and present a united stand against domestic and family violence.

The White Ribbon Domestic Violence Awareness Project received outstanding feedback and has since been adopted by 11 more police districts across Queensland.

Queensland Rail also adopted the project by displaying white ribbon stickers on south-east network trains in the lead-up to White Ribbon Day.
