Julie Molloy from Volunteering Queensland and Uncle Joe Kirk cut the International Year of Volunteers + 10 cake to officially open the expo.
To celebrate International Volunteer Day 2011 the Department of Communities held an expo to provide visitors the opportunity to sign up to volunteer with a variety of community organisations and government volunteering programs. Eighteen exhibitors were on-site recruiting volunteers to help with activities as diverse as Christmas gift wrapping, event support, conservation projects or a workplace clothing drive.
Over 500 people attended the expo enjoying the International Year of Volunteers + 10 cake in the morning and sausage sizzle, carollers and volunteering presentations at lunch.
Thanks to the participating exhibitors. Follow the links below to find out more about the organisations and their current volunteering opportunities.
