  1. Host an event such as a breakfast, morning tea, family fun day, lunch or community picnic.
  2. Hold a sausage sizzle at your local hardware or shopping centre and invite a local identity or sportsperson to cook.
  3. Approach a local identity, such as the Mayor or a local sportsperson, to make a media statement about the event.
  4. Ask your current volunteers to bring along a friend to the event where they will be acknowledged. This is also a good recruitment opportunity where a brief presentation could be provided to potential volunteers.
  5. Host your own volunteer awards.
  6. Recognise volunteers for their years of service.
  7. Give volunteers a small gift such as chocolates or complimentary tickets to special events.
  8. Start a volunteer recognition board.
  9. Write personal ‘thank you’ notes to your volunteers.
  10. Celebrate outstanding achievements by including volunteer stories in your newsletter.
  11. Create a 'thank you' slide show featuring photos of your volunteers in action from the past year.
  12. Encourage the people who volunteers help to make their own ‘thank you’ cards for their volunteers.
  13. Take a group photo of all current volunteers and hang it in a prominent spot in your organisation.
  14. Publicly thank your volunteers on your website.
  15. Present your volunteers with a certificate of recognition.
  16. Organise a guest speaker to talk about the contribution of your volunteers and present them with their certificates.
