International Women’s Day (IWD), held globally on 8 March each year, celebrates the economic, political and social achievements of women in the past, present and future.
The Queensland Government theme for 2013 International Women's Day celebrations was ‘Queensland Women – Building Connections’. The connections women make enhance their personal well-being, and build stronger, more inclusive communities.
The Queensland Government is committed to supporting women – on International Women's Day and all year round – to make new and strengthen existing connections, by providing information and support to women through Women’s Infolink.

The Minister for Communities, Tracy Davis, released a statistical snapshot statistical snapshot of women's progress on International Women's Day. The snapshot covers key areas such as education and training, employment and economic security, safety, housing and health and wellbeing.
Events were held across the state to celebrate International Women's Day. The Queensland Government proudly supported the UN Women Australia Brisbane International Women's Day Breakfast and the 2013 Black, Bold and Beautiful Indigenous Women’s Luncheon.
