2010 Queensland Youth Forum

The 2010 forum acknowledged the United Nations International Year of Youth, which commenced on 12 August 2010, celebrating 'Our Year, Our Voice'. It also coincided with the 25th anniversary of the first International Year of Youth held in 1985.

The forum participants focused on three themes:

  • youth safety
  • youth health
  • youth participation.

As a result of their conversations and commitment, proposals on bullying will be sent to the National Cyber-crime Working Group, while discussions are being held about including information in the school curriculum on healthy relationships for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender young people.

Young people were also connected with youth organisations and peak bodies to further pursue their interests or career paths, as well as further leadership and development opportunities including:

  • attending conferences and workshops
  • mentoring participants of other youth development initiatives of the Queensland Government
  • participating in the 2011 YMCA Queensland Youth Parliament
  • presenting information to a number of high level decision making bodies, including the Queensland Government's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Roundtable and Ministerial Advisory Council on Youth Violence
  • becoming members of a number of government and non-government advisory bodies including the planning group for the Commonwealth Youth Forum and the Queensland Duke of Edinburgh's Award State Award Committee.
