Who can participate in the Queensland Youth Forum?

The 2011 Queensland Youth Forum is open to all young Queenslanders aged 16 to 25 years old. Applications for the 2011 forum are now closed and applicants will be contacted in early September about the outcomes of the selection process.

For this year's forum, the Queensland Government is looking for up to 40 young people aged 16 to 25 who:

  • have an interest in sharing their views on youth and community issues
  • are actively involved in their communities
  • are looking to develop their consultation and leadership skills
  • are committed to undertaking further action in their community to progress ideas and recommendations developed at the forum.

How will participants be selected?

Participation in the Queensland Youth Forum is open to all young people living in Queensland aged 16 to 25. Up to 40 applicants will be selected to participate in the program: 30 of these participants will be selected through an open application process and the other 10 participants will be selected from their involvement in the Queensland Government youth development and leadership initiatives.

Selection will be based on:

  • the eligibility requirements for the forum
  • responses to selection questions in the application form (RTF, 153 KB)
  • ability to attend the program in Brisbane from 25 to 29 September 2011
  • commitment to participate, to their best ability, in all sections of the program
  • commitment to contribute to the goals and aims of the program
  • commitment to remain involved with the program and resulting projects after its completion
  • ensuring that the forum participants represent the diversity of young people in Queensland

In responding to selection questions, applicants should seek to highlight the following information:

  • interest in skills and knowledge development relating to addressing key issues for young people in Queensland
  • interest in leadership development
  • participation in local community and knowledge of community issues
  • interest in increasing involvement in the community and/or addressing key issues for young people in Queensland
  • links with community organisations and other networks that will be able to support them to implement ongoing projects from the forum.

Applications for the 2011 Queensland Youth Forum are now closed. Applicants must have completed all sections of the application form (RTF, 153 KB) and returned it to the Office for Youth by Monday 15 August 2011 to be eligible to participate in this year's event.

The Office for Youth will inform all applicants about the outcomes of the selection process (either by telephone, letter and/or email). Those successful in securing a position at the forum will be contacted in early September 2011.
