Support services for young people

These support services target young people aged 10 to 25 years. In particular, the services aim to support those experiencing limited opportunities for participation in the social, cultural, or economic life of the community, including disadvantaged or ‘at-risk’ young people. This includes young people at risk of homelessness, early school-leaving, or social disadvantage.

  • Youth Suicide Prevention

The department contributes towards Youth Suicide Prevention through supporting the following services in Brisbane and Cape York.

  • Youth Support Coordinators (YSCs)

The Youth Support Coordinator Initiative (YSCI) is a joint collaboration between Department of Communities and Department of Education.

  • Youth Housing and Reintegration Service (YHARS)

The Youth Housing and Reintegration Service (YHARS) is a new initiative of the Queensland Government's Implementation Plan jointly funded with the Commonwealth Government as part of the National Partnership Agreement on Homelessness.

  • Youth at Risk Initiative (YARI)

The Youth at Risk Initiative combined 11 existing funded youth initiatives into a single initiative. This will improve services available for vulnerable young people by specifying expected outcomes, prioritising responses for the young people who need them most and implementing a coordinated sector support strategy.
