The Victim Information Register provides current information to registered victims about young people who have committed crimes against the person.
Information is available to:
- a victim of crime committed against the person
- a family member or dependent of a person who has been a victim of a crime against the person
- a person who has intervened to help a person who has been the victim of a crime committed against the person; and
Information about the convicted offender can be provided to a registered victim if the person who commits a prescribed offence against the victim
- is convicted of the offence; and
- sentenced to imprisonment or detention.
Registration form
To find out if you are eligible to receive information, complete the registration form and mail it, and a photocopy of an identifying document, to the Victim Information Register Officer (free post).
Complete the registration form as fully as possible to enable the Victim Information Register Officer to respond to you.
The Victim Information Register Officer will determine your eligibility to receive information and notify you as soon as possible.
Insufficient identifying information may delay or prevent the Department of Communities from determining your eligibility to receive information.
Type of information you can receive
- The day the convicted person's period of imprisonment or detention started and the length of the period;
- Any escape from custody by the convicted person while undergoing sentence;
- Whether the convicted person is unlawfully at large within the meaning of the Corrective Services Act 2006;
- Any further cumulative periods of imprisonment or detention imposed on the convicted person while in custody for the offence;
- The day on which the convicted person is -
- eligible for, or due for, release on parole; or
- for a child, due for release under a supervised release order under the Youth Justice Act 1992; or
- due for discharge
- the transfer of the convicted person interstate or overseas under a scheme for the transfer of persons imprisoned or detained under sentence;
- if the convicted person is a child -
- the transfer of the convicted person from a detention centre to a corrective services facility; or
- the granting to the convicted person of leave absence under the Youth Justice Act 1992, section 269, and the period for which the leave is granted.
The information is provided under Section 16(2) of the Victims of Crime Assistance Act 2009.
Information provided about young offenders is supplied to assist victims of crime and should be treated as confidential.
