Director-General
Linda Apelt is the Director-General for the Department of Communities and Disability Services Queensland.
Message from the Director-General
For Queensland communities to prosper, people need places where they feel safe, valued, and empowered, no matter where they live or what their circumstances are.
The Department of Communities is committed to promoting and supporting excellence in the delivery of human services to Queenslanders. Our purpose is to strengthen and protect the wellbeing of Queenslanders, particularly those who are vulnerable and most in need, and provide easier access to responsive government services and information. Our department also has responsibility for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander policy, residential and aged care and mental health strategy, policy and legislation, and multicultural affairs.
Disability Services Queensland is a part of our portfolio and is the first disability-focussed department in Queensland. Central to ongoing reform of disability services, we represent a new way forward for people with a disability, their families and carers.
We fully recognise the importance of strong, productive relationships with our external stakeholders and the benefits of good teamwork within our own portfolio. A particular challenge for the department is to ensure we intervene effectively to assist vulnerable people and reduce disadvantage. To overcome this challenge, we must ensure that we continue to work collaboratively across government and build strong relationships with the non-government and corporate sectors in delivering quality services to the community.
I recognise that our department's capacity to achieve its vision is vested in the talent and dedication of staff. I am therefore committed to providing my staff with the skills, support and resources they need to achieve real outcomes for the state.
I look forward to the department working in partnership with the three tiers of government, non-government service providers and Queensland communities, so that together we can deliver local responses to local issues and create strong communities in Queensland where all people are safe, valued and empowered, wherever they live, whatever their circumstances.
Linda A. Apelt
