About the Ministerial Advisory Councils

The Department of Communities is committed to fostering strong communities, where all people are safe, valued and empowered, wherever they live, whatever their circumstances.

To this end, the following three Ministerial Advisory Councils have been established to provide the Minister with access to a wide range of perspectives on issues relating to youth, seniors, and domestic and family violence:

Each council provides a forum for the exchange of information and views between members and the Queensland Government relating to the development of policies, programs and services affecting Queenslanders.  The councils also enable local issues to be better understood and addressed, thereby helping improve the Queensland Government’s capacity to respond effectively to regional issues.

The councils also assist the department to deliver on its vision by contributing to the Department's strategic objectives of providing quality services for children and families, ensuring that young people achieve their potential, and that senior Queenslanders feel valued and remain active.

Members are currently being recruited for two-year terms commencing in early 2008. They will be required to attend two to three meetings per year, keep in contact between council meetings, and be actively engaged in their regions throughout their term.
