Ministerial Advisory Council on Domestic and Family Violence

The Ministerial Advisory Council on Domestic and Family Violence provides advice to the Queensland Government on issues relevant to the development of policies, programs and services aimed at reducing domestic and family violence.

The council provides advice to the Minister for Community Services and Housing on:

The council also monitors and advises on the implementation and impact of the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act 1989, related community awareness and service delivery initiatives, and research priorities.

Council members

The council comprises a representative from each of the Department of Communities' 10 regions, an independent chairperson, as well as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and multicultural representatives. Ex-officio membership includes representatives from the following government departments: Department of Communities (including Child Safety Services, Housing and Homelessness Services and the Office for Women), Queensland Health, Department of Justice and Attorney-General, and the Queensland Police Service.

Each member contributes knowledge and expertise on issues relating to domestic and family violence. They also contribute extensive knowledge of issues within the region they represent, as well as their own unique perspectives, to the advice provided to the Minister.

Council meetings

Council meetings are generally held in Brisbane three times a year. Members keep in contact between meetings and are active in their regions throughout their term.
