The Complex Communication Needs booklet was produced in an acknowledgement of the impact that skilled communication partners can have on the success of communication.
It aims to share information about what the term "complex communication needs" means, the perspectives of some people with complex communication needs and some general strategies that can be implemented on a daily basis.
Importantly it highlights the aim of communication support to maximise a person's ability to participate in everyday life, to make decisions and choices, to express their personal identity, to learn and to establish relationships.
Communication board for an emergency medical situation
The double-sided board contains vocabulary to support the patient and paramedic to express and understand messages relating to the medical situation. The development of this resource was a joint initiative between the Department of Communities (Disability and Community Care Services) and the Department of Community Safety (Queensland Ambulance Service).
This communication board was developed as a tool to enhance communication between Paramedics and patients with complex communication needs at the first point of contact in an emergency medical situation.
