Award winner: Mark Betts, Food Spectrum Group

Award recipient: Mark Betts, Food Spectrum Group

Mark Betts was inspired by the achievements of John Maclean, wheelchair athlete and founder of the John Maclean Foundation and now raises money for specialised equipment and therapy to help Queensland children with disabilities, particularly those with cerebral palsy.

Through fundraising and other initiatives, in excess of $100,000 has been raised in the past 12 months and a further $58,700 this year. Money raised has also gone towards the establishment of a youth theatre project for young people with disabilities, to improve their communication skills and sense of self worth. Food Spectrum’s funding helps to purchase a wide array of support ranging from communication, eye control and speech generating devices; wheelchairs & frames; access ramps; speech pathology; hydrotherapy and more.
