Award recipient: Legal Aid Queensland

Legal Aid Queensland has enhanced its focus on the needs of people with an intellectual disability in the criminal justice system. To support this focus Legal Aid Queensland has:

• Held the Law Week Hypothetical
• Amended our Duty Lawyer forms
• Conducted continuing professional development seminars
• Commenced a revision of the Duty Lawyer Handbook
• Developing guidelines for appropriately dealing with clients who have a mental illness or who have an intellectual or cognitive disability.
