Planned, designed and constructed in collaboration with community members and Disability Services, the Texas All Abilities Playground’s official opening on 27 November 2009 was always destined to be a real community affair.
To ensure the event was just that – a tribute to community participation – Goondiwindi Regional Council and department staff joined forces to help host, nourish and entertain about 100 guests, including 60 students from Texas State School.
The event, themed Fun in the Park, was a great success and featured Disability Services Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk officially declaring the new playground open alongside Mayor Cr Graeme Scheu.
Texas State School students also showcased their singing, dancing and skipping talents during the event’s official reception, which kicked-off the two-hour celebration.
Other event features included a sausage sizzle hosted by the school’s P&C Association, face-painting, balloons and a clown – one of many wonderful community volunteers helping out on the day.
