Gai Porter and her son Lawson Cross plant a tree together during council’s Community Planting Day.
Native trees destined for the town’s new playground were nurtured for almost a year in the small nursery of Texas retail outlet Hong Yuen’s.
The local business donated the space and resources needed to care for the plants, which included varieties of native grevilleas and eucalypts specially selected to attract local birdlife.
Nursery hand Gai Porter tended the plants and was, along with her son Lawson Cross, among those settling them in to their new homes during a Community Planting Day on 30 October 2009.
