While I don’t remember much of my childhood as I had epilepsy until I was seven, I became aware that I didn’t really fit in when I was in middle primary school. I found it hard to interact with others and struggled to even think of things to talk about. I now know that I have Asperger’s syndrome.

Although many social cues are a mystery to me, there is nothing wrong with my intelligence. I have always loved to work on computers and even as a child liked to do basic programming on my Atari game console.

In 2007, I started an ICT traineeship, in which I completed Certificate III in ICT. I now have a permanent job with the ICT department for Catholic Education. I support three schools in the Whitsunday area, working at Bowen and travelling to Collinsville and Proserpine.

I enjoy working as part of the team and knowing that my work is valued. The people I work with say I show initiative and am very good at troubleshooting. I have been asked to work on special projects. St Catherine’s school in Proserpine has nominated me for the ‘Pride in Workmanship’ Award.
