My wife, Peta and I, both have different disabilities but are both on the same bowling team. We have been bowling for many years now and love the competition with our friends. Through bowling we have travelled all over Queensland and Australia, including Perth. Recently we also travelled to New Zealand. While people on the team help us, we are able to travel without family or a support worker. Bowling is a good example of how, with hard work, we can have fun, be independent, and social and be really good bowlers.

Growing up I have always wanted to be able to do all the things my sister can. She can drive a car, live by herself, get married, and have a baby. Well, I got to be married first and live independently with my husband of 10 years. I have a job that is fun and I go bowling and travel. I can’t drive but I am very good at catching buses. However, I can’t have a baby. While I have lots of nephews it wasn’t until my sister had Max that I really got to see what it is like. I am learning every day about how to care for him and soon I might be able to get him out of his car seat. I have taught him to clap and he smiles at me a lot. I am so proud of him and what I have learnt. I hope Max gets a brother or sister soon.
