The Disability Services Quality System Partnership Project seeks to improve engagement between service providers and service users, their families and carers.
The Partnership Project used a range of resources and workshops to support and encourage service providers and service users, their families and carers to participate in the ongoing planning, development and delivery of quality services. The project is supported by:
- information bulletins
- online resources.
Workshops were held across the state from May through to August 2010 and focused on increasing awareness of how engagement between service providers and service users, their families and carers links to continuous improvement; quality service provision and enhancement of quality of life for people with a disability.
Service Provider Engagement workshops
Developed for specialist disability service providers, these workshops aimed to further develop skills and enhance capacity to engage with service users, their families and carers.Workshops were held at the following locations: Brisbane, Townsville, Rockhampton and Toowoomba.
Service User Capacity Builder workshops
The Capacity Builder workshop included effective methods of engagement and communication approaches and prepares service users, their families and carers to facilitate Service User Awareness workshops.
Service User Awareness workshops
These workshops aimed to encourage service users, their families and carers to enhance engagement with their specialist disability service provider and will identify opportunities for participation within the planning, development and delivery of disability services. Workshops were held at the following locations: Beenleigh Brisbane, Cairns, Ipswich, Kingaroy, Maryborough, Nambour, Rockhampton, Toowoomba and Townsville.
Workshop Evaluation
Evaluations of the workshops have been conducted, including on the content provided and participants' satisfaction with the skills that they learned.
The majority of respondents provided positive feedback about the workshops and their value in contributing to enhanced engagement between service providers, service users, their families and carers and the community. Areas of improvement that were identified will be used to refine future workshops.
