The National Standards for Disability Services (National Standards) are being revised.
Targeted stakeholders will be consulted as part of a Validation Study, using a revised draft of the Standards.
The Validation Study will be evaluated and the outcomes will be used to prepare a final version of the National Standards.

Current Events
Validation Study
Before the draft National Standards are finalised, a validation study will be conducted to confirm that the National Standards are a practical tool for improving service quality. A key process underpinning the validation study is national consultation with key stakeholders. In Queensland consultations will be held in May-June 2012.
People will be able to participate in the validation study in the following ways:
- The online survey will open in May 2012 for a period of six weeks and be available on the National Quality Framework project website at:
A hard-copy version of the survey will also be made available for people to complete if they prefer.
- Written submissions may be submitted via post or online by completing the template that will be available on the National Quality Framework project website at:
- Facilitated workshops and focus groups
- 2 focus groups are planned for people with a disability, families and carers in Brisbane and Toowoomba on 04/06/12 and 05/06/12 respectively.

2 workshops are planned for specialist disability service providers in Brisbane and Townsville on 04/06/12 and 07/06/12 respectively.
Draft National Standards for Disability Services
Subsequent to the national consultations undertaken in 2010, the National Quality Framework Working Group contracted Synergistiq to develop a set of draft revised National Standards. This work was based on the findings of the The Disability Studies and Research Centre at the University of New South Wales. These draft National Standards were endorsed by the Select Council on Disability Reform in February 2012.

National consultation on the revision of the National Standards for Disability Services
Consultation sessions contributed to the revision of the National Standards for Disability Services were held at locations throughout Queensland during May and June 2010.

The Disability Studies and Research Centre at the University of New South Wales was appointed by the National Quality Framework Working Group to analyse the consultation feedback and prepare a report on the findings. National Quality Framework Working Group response to the recommendations in the report
Throughout October-December 2010, all jurisdictions, via the National Quality Framework Working Group, reviewed the report on the consultation data for the revision of the National Standards for Disability Services, and prepared a response to the findings and recommendations contained within the report.
