This toolkit supports people with intellectual disability and complex communication needs to understand the Queensland Disability Service Standards and to provide feedback about the support they receive. The toolkit can help people to participate in the Disability Sector Quality System.
Toolkit components
Bringing quality to life DVD
- DVD explains each standard using day-to-day stories
- Actors with a disability play lead roles
- Each standard includes prompts for viewers to talk about the specialist disability service they receive in relation to that standard
- Simple signing captions are also available.

Bringing quality to life audio CD
- CD explains each standard using day-to-day stories
- Each standard includes prompts for viewers to talk about the specialist disability service they receive in relation to that standard
- Extra narration is included, making it accessible for people with vision impairment.
Books and augmentative communication materials
- Books provide resources for communication partners to use with the people they support
- Pictures, symbols and descriptions of signs are included to help communication partners provide information about the Standards
- Templates are available to generate discussion and gain feedback in relation to the specialist disability service people currently receive
- Other strategies are recommended for people who do not use pictures or signs.
