The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander 2011 Statewide Gathering was held 10-11 August at the Cairns Sebel Hotel. This was the first time Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander service providers in the disability and community care sector have been able to come together at one event.
The Gathering was a great opportunity to share information, problem solve and network. It also provided an opportunity to hear about, and discuss, the transition of the Home and Community Care program under National Health Reforms and to identify specific transition issues for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander service providers.
Discussions at the gathering have enabled participants to identify key issues and brainstorm ways to continue improving service delivery and planning strategies. The outcomes from these discussions have been collated and relevant documents are now available.
