A message from the Premier
My Government is helping to create an environment that enables children, young people and their families to eat well and be active every day.
Minister's Foreword
The Eat well be active magazine is part of the Department of Communities' contribution to the Queensland Government's strategy to achieve healthy weight in young Queenslanders.
Obesity summit update
Almost one in four children and half of the adults in Australia are overweight or obese. This is a serious issue, and it's why the Queensland Premier held an Obesity Summit in May 2006.
Eat well and be active every day
We all know that for our children to enjoy a lifetime of good health, they need to eat well and be active. Fortunately there are easy ways to make this happen. But first it is important to understand what eating well and being active really means.
Food for under fives
The first five years of your child's life can be challenging when it comes to food.
Getting active with babies and toddlers
To lay the foundation for a healthy, active life your child needs to be active every day from a young age.
Smart choices for school children
Healthy eating at home and at school helps children establish lifelong healthy eating habits.
Activity for school aged children
Daily activity is important for your children's growth and development. It's also a great way for them to make friends and learn new physical and social skills.
Tips for teenagers
Growth spurts, body image and more control over food choices are just some of the challenges children face as they enter their teenage years.
Teenagers get active
Get your teenagers motivated and moving by encouraging them to get active with their friends.
Active grandparenting
As a grandparent you are a valuable role model for your grandchildren.
Let's do this together
Parents and child care professionals have a great influence over children's attitudes towards physical activity and food.
Tips to eat well and be active every day
Eat a wide variety of food including fruit, vegetables, legumes, cereals, meat, fish and dairy products like milk, cheese and yoghurt.
